1. Carver’s Gap

Carver's Gap is a popular mountain destination for couples looking to elope, especially in the winter! Most areas along the Blue Ridge Parkway are closed for the winter; however, Carver's Gap parking spot is usually more accessible. 

You'll walk less than a mile to the summit, where you'll be met with expansive views and 360-degree panoramas of the grassy or snow-covered mountain.

2. Dry Falls

Dry Falls is a popular waterfall a few miles outside of Highlands that offers the uncommon opportunity to stroll securely behind a waterfall. The Nantahala National Forest's 75-foot-tall waterfall pours over a cliff, allowing you to stroll behind the falls while remaining dry.

During the winter, Dry Falls is the ideal setting for winter elopement. As the temperature drops, icicles form on the falls, and if it gets cold enough, the entire thing freezes and forms an icy wall over the cliffside.  It's a breathtaking sight and one of the best winter elopement spots.

3. Bearwallow Mountain

The Bearwallow Mountain hike is a short stroll with beautiful sights and panoramic views. In the winter, the grassy meadow at the summit gets a dusting of snow, and you can see many mountain summits in the distance. 

Bearwallow Mountain, on the way to Chimney Rock and Lake Lure, is only 19 miles from downtown Asheville, which offers plenty to do after the elopement ceremony. 

4. Biltmore Estate

A private estate in the Asheville area is ideal for those dreaming of an elopement location with historical elegance and mountain charm. Biltmore Estate features romantic architectural details like high ceilings, arched doorways, winding staircases, and chandeliers, and has a variety of fairytale settings that include historic terraces, lush gardens, open-air courtyards, barns, ballrooms, and more.
