We are still riding the glow of this beautiful wedding we were honored to be a part of in Hot Springs, NC, at the breathtaking Magnolia House. Just about an hour from Asheville, this historic mansion provided the perfect backdrop for a “happily ever after” moment — full of love, intention, and grace.
We’ll have a video reel up soon so you can step inside the venue with us, see the bride and groom, watch the light dance through the rooms, and feel the pulse of that day.
🏛️ Magnolia House: A Legacy Reborn
Located at 204 Lawson Street, Hot Springs, NC 28743, Magnolia House is a storied landmark. Originally built in 1868 (then called The Rutland), it was constructed by Colonel James Henry Rumbough for his wife Carrie and their eight children.
Over the years, the House has passed through only four owners. In 1999, it underwent a significant restoration that brought it close to its original 1868 form, preserving original plaster work, wood floors, and architectural details.
Today, it lives on as a wedding venue, event space, and luxury lodging — a gated estate stretching over 3 acres, with curated gardens, grand rooms, and mountain views to match.
Walking those halls, every corner whispers history: those wide porches, the original flooring, the old fireplaces, and even the giant walnut tree beneath which so many couples may now promise forever.
🌄 Hot Springs, NC: A Town of Springs, History & Revival
Before we talk weddings, let’s pause to remember why Hot Springs is such a special place:
-
The town has been a resort destination since the early 1800s, drawing visitors to its healing mineral springs long before modern wellness tourism.
-
Indigenous peoples long knew of and revered the hot mineral springs. Even in early colonial times, people traveled over mountain passes just to soak.
-
In 1828, the Buncombe Turnpike made Hot Springs (then called Warm Springs) accessible, turning it into a major route and stopping point en route between states.
-
In 1886, the discovery of a hotter spring led the town to change its name from Warm Springs to Hot Springs.
-
The Hot Springs Historic District is listed on the National Register of Historic Places (since 2009).
In recent months and years, Hot Springs has faced many challenges — including damage from Hurricane Helene — yet the town’s spirit remains unbroken. On our recent visit, we saw motorcycles passing through, a Porsche club gathering in the town, families walking the streets, couples smiling, hope in the air, and restoration everywhere.
đź’„ Our Role in a Day of Beauty & Love
At Jeanne’s Hair & Makeup, we believe a wedding is part the story of the couple — but also part of the story of place. And somewhere between those ancient trees and the echoing rooms of Magnolia House, this wedding felt deeply rooted.
From the bride’s trial session to final touches before she walked down the aisle, every brush stroke, every curl, and every wipe of lipstick carried with it gratitude. We got to see not just a bride and groom, but a community coming alive again, a town healing, and love taking space again.
If you’re looking for a wedding venue near Asheville — somewhere not just beautiful, but meaningful, historic, and resilient — Magnolia House should absolutely be on your shortlist.
